On Opossumtology
What is Opossumtology?
The short answer is that Opossumtology is a lifestyle somewhere between a religion and a cult that was founded by Carl the Opossum (also known as the Great Prophet). To better understand Opossumtology, we must first understand who Carl is.
You may recognize Carl as the wildlife ambassador for my art print/pen pal club, Letters From the Wild. He is an opossum I found in my hometown of Las Vegas shortly after pandemic and we have been inseparable ever since.
Carl is not your average opossum. He is highly creative and likes to take initiatives and start trends. We started Letters From the Wild as an antidote to all the negativity online. The goal was to bring positivity and creativity to people that wasn't on a screen. But Carl went a step further. He founded the Church of Carl to bring hope to others in a dark world. Also, he was hoping his followers would send him candy, as there is little he values more.
The teachings of Opossumtology are summed up in the Book of Trash which Carl penned in May of 2026. The Church enjoyed new attention in late May when an Instagram post stating that Carl did not approve of the use of generative AI brought new Posslings (as Carl calls his followers) into the fold. As AI data centers pose a threat to our already fragile environment, and Opossumtology speaks clearly of not harming others (including nature), the Great Prophet opossum cannot approve of its use.
The future of Opossumtology is still being written. But Carl did create the Holy Regalia and the offer of Sainthood in the Church of Carl for those who feel the Church of Carl resonates with them. Those who are interested can consult The Book of Trash to see the tenets of the faith.
Bless you, Possling.
