Trekking the Himalayas the Sherpa Way: Meet Karma Sherpa
If Mt. Everest is your Roman Empire, you have definitely seen videos online of the porters and sherpas who seemingly perform miracles to make summits and safe treks happen. And if, like me, you're more of a hiker than a mountaineer, you may have dreamed of visiting Everest Base Camp. It's on the top of many hikers' bucket lists and a Nepali man named Karma Sherpa wants to show visitors how to unplug and connect with nature on the trek.

Karma grew up in a part of the Everest region of Nepal called Teksindu. He spent years guiding for other companies before starting his own company in 2009, Sherpa Mountain Adventures. His goal was to create experiences that shared not only the beauty of the Himalayan mountains but also the food and customs of Sherpa Culture and Tibetan history (Tibet being where the Sherpa originated).
Everest seems to be in the blood as Karma's uncle, Babu Chiri Sherpa, was a celebrated mountaineer. He spent a record setting 21 hours on the summit in 1999 without supplemental oxygen. The following year he set a speed record climbing to the summit form Base Camp in just 16 hours and 56 minutes.
For the Sherpa people the mountains are sacred and Everest is part of their home. This is a lesson Karma wishes to bring to those who take on Himalayan adventures with his capable team. I can attest from my own firsthand experience that the Himalayas are astonishingly beautiful and filled with a powerful energy. And Nepal will capture your heart and imagination with its hospitality and rich culture.
If adventure is on your bingo card for 2025, or if you want to start planning ahead for 2026, I recommend browsing the Sherpa Mountain Adventures website to see the most famous mountains in the world in a whole new way.
